"The pent-up power and grace of a horse is as exciting as it is beautiful" |

After rats, my second passion is thoroughbred horse racing. Some of the horses names are as striking
as their appearance and I have named many of my rats after them. The love of horses has always been in my family. As a little girl, my mother had collections of stuffed horses and figurines and read every horse story she could find, such as "My Friend Flicka". At 11, she fell in love with Sword Dancer but it was during the time of Secretariat, Affirmed and Alydar, and her all-time favorite horses; Ruffian, Forego and Seattle Slew that really pulled her interest in horse racing. It should be expected that her love for them would be passed on to me. When Seattle Slew won the Belmont, making him a Triple Crown winner, my mother was in the stands cheering him on while she was pregnant with me. When I was 3 years old, everybody seated around us had me yelling, "Come on, Genuine Risk!" It had always been my mother's dream that I'd become a racetrack veterinarian, save a horse's life and receive a foal as reward. I'm not a veterinarian and I don't own a horse but, I do share her passion and admiration for these beautiful animals. We frequent Monmouth Park every week during the summer, Philly Park, Meadowlands (during thoroughbred season), and sometimes Belmont and Delaware Park. I have taken many pictures of the horses and would like to share them. |
